ABOUT demi dopamine

I’m Demi Dopamine — a multidisciplinary artist, songwriter, and music producer whose work lives at the intersection of sound, visual art, and storytelling. Born in National City, San Diego, I was raised between Seattle and Oʻahu, with formative years also spent in Rhode Island and New Hampshire. I’ve now lived on Maui for over a decade, building a creative life rooted in culture, community, and expression. My heritage — Japanese, Filipino, Native American, Canadian and European — brings a layered, cross-cultural perspective to everything I create.

I began writing poetry at a young age and was first published at just 10 years old. Raised in a deeply artistic and unconventional environment, I grew up surrounded by music and visual art — from classical string training in violin and viola through the Suzuki method to playing clarinet in school band, while independently exploring piano, guitar, drums, and songwriting. During piano classes, I found myself more drawn to producing beats in GarageBand, laying the foundation for my path into music production. I also explored graffiti and visual art early on, using creativity as both expression and escape.

As a producer and songwriter, my breakout came with “Ganja Love” by Alex Milani and Nālani Kai — a track I produced that quickly gained traction and continues to receive radio play across Hawai‘i. I followed with “Maui Nights,” expanding my sound through global collaboration. I’m currently preparing to release my debut album, a project years in the making, while continuing to collaborate with artists across genres and regions.

I lead the Ethereal Poetry Project, where I produce original music, create visual art, and collaborate with poets to transform spoken word into fully realized songs and cinematic video pieces. A large-scale art installation featuring poets from around the country is currently in development, bringing together music, poetry, and immersive visual storytelling.

Beyond music, I am an illustrator, published poet, and creator of mindful coloring books and visual art collections. I also serve as Executive Director of Grants Central Station, a nonprofit that fiscally sponsors and supports grassroots community projects.

As an entrepreneur, I founded Demi Dopamine Desserts and Kitsune Gourmet — high-demand brands rooted in creativity, flavor, and community. Behind the scenes, I also support my partner Vince Esquire and his band Kanekoa with websites, tour coordination, booking, and serve as an unofficial road manager.

At my core, I am a hyper-creative — building across music, writing, design, and business. I am also nearing completion of my undergraduate degree in biology, having once been on the path to becoming a physician — a journey that continues to shape my perspective on healing, discipline, and purpose.

This space brings together everything I love — music, poetry, visual art, and intentional living.

Mahalo for being part of the journey.
